Ireland IPTV M3U Playlists and EPG: The Complete Setup Guide

When you sign up for Ireland IPTV, your welcome email contains a few technical-looking details: a username, a password, a server URL and often an M3U link and an EPG link. If you have never used IPTV before, it can be confusing to know which one to use and where.

This guide explains in plain English what an M3U playlist is, how it differs from an Xtream Codes login, what the EPG is, and exactly how to add them to the most popular player apps. It also covers the problems people run into most often and how to fix them.

What is an M3U playlist?

An M3U file is a simple text list of channels. Each entry has a channel name, a logo, a group (such as Ireland or Sports) and the web address the stream plays from. When you give an M3U link to a player app, the app reads the list and builds your channel menu from it.

An Ireland IPTV M3U link usually looks like a long web address containing your username and password. Treat it like a password: anyone who has it can use your subscription, so never post it online or share it outside your household.

What is an Xtream Codes login?

Xtream Codes (sometimes called Xtream API) is a newer and more convenient way to connect. Instead of one long link, you enter three short details into the player app:

• Server URL, for example a web address with a port number
• Username
• Password

The app then downloads live channels, movies, series and the TV guide automatically, and keeps them organised in separate sections. For most people, Xtream Codes is the better choice because it is easier to type in and gives you the full Ireland IPTV experience, including the movies and series library and catch-up.

M3U or Xtream Codes: which should you use?

Use Xtream Codes whenever your app supports it. Use the M3U link when:

• Your app only supports playlists, such as VLC or some Smart TV apps
• You want to load a playlist into a program on your computer
• Support has asked you to try the M3U link to troubleshoot a problem

What is an EPG?

EPG stands for Electronic Programme Guide, the TV guide grid that shows what is on now and next. In IPTV, the EPG is a separate data file, usually in a format called XMLTV, that the app matches to your channels using a channel ID.

How to add Ireland IPTV to popular apps

TiviMate (Firestick, Android TV)

1. Open TiviMate and choose Add playlist.
2. Select Xtream Codes.
3. Enter the server URL, username and password from your welcome email.
4. Press Next. TiviMate loads your channels and the TV guide automatically.
5. Give the playlist a name, such as Ireland IPTV, and press Done.

IPTV Smarters and similar apps

1. Open the app and choose Login with Xtream Codes API.
2. Type any name, then your username, password and server URL.
3. Press Add User and wait for the content to download.
4. Open Live TV to start watching, or Install EPG from the settings if the guide is empty.

VLC on a computer

1. Open VLC and choose Media, then Open Network Stream.
2. Paste your Ireland IPTV M3U link and press Play.
3. Open the playlist view (Ctrl+L) to browse and choose channels.

Fixing common M3U and EPG problems

Most problems come down to a small typing mistake or an app setting. Work through these fixes in order:

“Invalid login” or “authorisation failed”

Check every character of the username, password and server URL. They are case-sensitive, and an extra space at the end is enough to stop the login. Include “http://” and the port number if they are in your email.

Channels load but the TV guide is empty

Open the app's EPG settings and press Update EPG. If you use an M3U playlist, paste the EPG link into the EPG source field. The first download can take a few minutes.

The TV guide shows the wrong times

Look for a time-shift or EPG offset setting in the app and set it to 0 for Irish time. Make sure the date and time zone on your device are set to Dublin.

New channels are missing

Your app caches the channel list. Use the Refresh or Update playlist option, or set the playlist to update automatically every day.

The playlist will not load at all

Restart the device and the router, then try again. If it still fails, message our support team with the name of the app and a screenshot of the error.
